The Geroge Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum is part of a four-museum complex that also includes the Springfield Science Museum, the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts. It houses the eclectic collection of 19th-century carriage manufacturer Smith, who acquired an impressive assortment of Japanese weaponry and armor, Chinese cloisonne, Middle Eastern rugs, and paintings from important American artists such as J.G. Brown. The museum resides in the heart of town, near the Springfield City Library.
